AMI-ECOTOUR01 - 5D - Nam Cat Tien National Park

Nam Cat Tien National Park – Explore one of Viet Nam’s most treasured and impressive biodiversity zones and stay at an eco-lodge.
Nam Cat Tien National Park covers 71,920 Hectares of lowland forest and swamp in southern Viet Nam and is one of Viet Nam's most important and largest National Parks, it is home to the Javan rhinoceros which still exists in the Cat Loc area, and is the last remaining population of this species on the Asian mainland. Other mammals include Asian Elephants, Samba Deer, Sun Bears, Gaurs and tiger. Smaller mammal species in the Park includes Yellow-cheeked Gibbons, Silvery Langurs, Crab-eating Macaques, Pygmy Slow Loris, as well as civets, mouse deer, and tree shrews. The Park is a bird watchers paradise with many species of birds to be found, including such specialties as Germain's peacock pheasant, bar-bellied pitta and the rare endemic orange-necked partridge. As well as Green peafowl, Siamese firebacks, orange-necked partridge, wreathed hornbills, various woodpeckers, herons, egrets, stork, osprey, lesser fish eagle, grey-headed fish eagle, crested serpent eagle, and falcons. The Park is approximately 160 km (100 miles) or about a 3 and a half hours drive north east of Ho Chi Minh City.

Day 1
 

Welcome to Sai Gon also known as Ho Chi Minh City. Lunch will be at a well known local restaurant, followed by a half day city tour to visit the Reunification Hall, Old Post Office, Notre Dame Cathedral and then the chance for shopping at Ben Thanh Market. In the evening you will board a dinner river cruise down the Sai Gon River.


Day 2
 

After breakfast we head to Nam Cat Tien National Park. Your accommodation is a River-View Tent with a balcony overlooking the Ben Cu Rapids, these deluxe tents are constructed on elevated wooden platforms and reached via a network of walkways, or traditional rural Vietnamese bungalow nestled in amongst the trees with a private veranda looking out in to the jungle. All accommodation is well secluded and equipped for comfort, with good quality en-suite bathrooms and tastefully selected furnishings. A boat trip along the Dong Nai River to view the wildlife along the riverbank and trek through grassland areas to search for Peafowl, Jungle Fowl and birds that prefer a more open habitat. Continue on to the Kim Lan village once a French military camp and now the main village to the one ethnic inhabitants of the park.


Day 3
 

Early morning depart for drive then trek to crocodile lake with plenty of opportunities to see many varieties of bird life and if you are lucky, the chance of spotting larger mammals. The Siamese Crocodile is critically endangered and this is one of the last remaining places in the world that you can still see them in the wild. In the evening a walking tour along the track following the river through the botanical garden to Heaven Rapids. Good opportunities to see the birds and possibly the gibbon.


Day 4
 

In the afternoon before we head back for Saigon we tour the land bordering the Park which is now rich farming land growing a variety of crops, fruits like mango, bananas, jackfruit, star fruit and spices such as pepper. The farms are small family run business providing very modest income to the farmers.


Day 5
 

Tour ends. After your final day in Sai Gon you have the option of either catching your flight home or adding an extension tour for example exploring the Mekong Delta, relaxing on a beach on Phu Quoc Island or touring the rest of Viet Nam.
