Sapa Overview:
Sapa situated on above 1600km from sea level in the North- West of Viet Nam, belong to Lao Cai Province, near the border of Chinese. It’s around 36km from Lao Cai province to Sapa and around 376 km from Ha Noi to the North – west.
Sapa was found during the inspection about the hill tribes under the French colonial period. The first exploring group came to Lao Cai on 1898.
In 1903, during working on information for the map, those explorers found the plain of Lo Suoi Tung and Sa Pa Village that was marked for the born of Sapa Town.
Main hill tribes in Sapa are H’mong, Tay , Dao Do , Giay, Xa Pho. And now, Kinh people moved there a lot for doing business as Sapa is on development as a special tourist attraction.
Sapa surrounds by Hoang Lien Son mountain range and the famous Fansipan summit that creates very nice climate around the year. It is Spring in the morning that is around 15oC, warmer at noon as Summer with light sunshine and breezes , foggy in the evening as Fall and Winter season at night. Sapa is one of very rarely places in Viet Nam where it was snowing sometimes. In 1971 – 2011, there are 15 snowing times in Sapa. The strongest one is on the year 1968, it was snowed from 3:00 AM to 14:00 PM with 20cm of snow.
Nowadays, Sapa attracts a lot of tourists by its beautiful scenes, nice climate but the most attraction is the tribes of people. Many special tours for trekking and homestay offer to travelers a chance to meet , stay together and learn about the hill tribes living.
