Phu Quoc Overview:
Phú Quốc is the largest island in Vietnam. The island is part of Kiên Giang province, has a total area of 574 square kilometres (222 sq m2) and a permanent population of approximately 85,000. The district of Phú Quốc includes the island proper and 21 smaller islets. The district seat, Dương Đông, is located on the west coast, and is also the largest town on the island. The economy is centered around fishing, agriculture and a fast-growing tourism sector; Phú Quốc being one of the most popular tourist destinations of Vietnam.
Phu Quoc is famous in producing the two traditional products: fish sauce and pepper. Fish sauce in Phu Quoc is one of the most popular and be preferred by most of Vietnamese people. ( The other is Phan Thiet fish sauce , Lang co fish sauce..) . Phu Quoc is surrounding by the sea that supplied the main material ( fishes ) for this industry plus their secret ingredients that made the Phu Quoc fish sauce has a good smell and taste.
Pepper is cultivated inland by many farmers, in the North of this Island. Pepper in Phu Quoc also well known as its strong taste for the gustation.
Nowadays, Phu Quoc is the best place for weekend relaxation after a long working week. There are flight routes from Ho Chi Minh City, Rach Gia to Phu Quoc every day. It takes just 1.5 hours by speed boat from Ha Tien to Phu Quoc and around 2.5 hours from Rach Gia to Phu Quoc.
By its natural beauties, quiet Island but luxury services, specially their nice beaches, the volume of local and international tourists came to Phu Quoc increased day after day. Many 4 & 5* Resorts were built by many International or Joint Venture cooperation on purpose to attract more and more tourists.

Duong Dong Town

Duong Dong Town is located on the East of Phu Quoc Island. That is the most prosperous area in this Island and also is as the center of administration, economy and culture of Phu Quoc.
Duong Dong connected Ham Ninh Commune, An Thoi Port, Cua Can , Bai Thom, those are the main residential areas. The Phu Quoc Airport and many luxury hotels are located in Duong Dong.



Dinh Cau

Dinh Cau is a Temple where the local people worship. It is located right in the gate of Duong Dong River. The local fishermen came here to pray before go to fish.
Besides the meaning of religion, that is a place for enjoying the beautiful scene of nature and the peaceful of Duong Dong River.

Around Phu Quoc Island, there are a lot of seaweeds and this is a big source of foods for a kind of fish called “ ca com”. That fish is small but it is the best “material” for making the fish sauce. By the huge source of “ ca com”, fish sauce became one of the main occupation for Phu Quoc people since 200 years ago. In the end of 19th century, Phu Quoc people were exported the fish sauce to Thailand and Cambodia but the most prosperous period was in 1965-1975.
For making fish sauce, people mixed fishes and salt in a big wooden round container, it often is three layers of fishes covered by one layer of salt.
The processing for making fish sauce in Phu Quoc is from 12 to 15 months.
Actually, most of Western people were not like to smell the fish sauce but that is the main sauce for Vietnamese cuisine.
